The Biola Journey of a Business/Bible major and Torrey student

Out of the snow and into the sun

After a few months I finally finished my last post of 100 things I’m thankful for at Biola (Part I & Part II). I didn’t really write about what happened during that break of time, and I never like playing catching up. I’m mostly writing this blog to get back in the routine, but also to write a blog. So here we go.

Downtown Kirkland at night

This winter I got to be home for almost a month. I got to help out at Northshore’s New Year’s party, hang out with friends, and more. After all that I needed to finish my last night home with a bang, so I called up my friends Julia, Mallory, and Geoff. Three of us (Julia, Mallory, and I) went out to eat in downtown Kirkland (Geoff was working so he couldn’t come). We went to Wilde Rover, an Irish pub set in the heart of Kirkland. We had some really good food, then headed out for coffee down the road. Remember, Kirkland is a suburb of Seattle, so we’re all coffee snobs. We have coffee shops that put Starbucks to shame, and even those places are put to shame by others up here. We got some good coffee then headed down to the water front to hang out.

It was FREEZING so we headed over to Ross to look around. Ross has some crazy stuff, from owl decorations to ugly shoes. Geoff called us while we were there, so we headed back to my place to watch a movie. Since it was Friday the 13th, we watched the movie…Friday the 13th… duh. The night was a good way to end my time up at home.

After much needed time at home, it was time to come back down to California. As we drove to the airport I read that snow was on the way. Facebook was blowing up with people saying “SNOW!”, “It’s a blizzard!”, or “It’s about time”. We wanted to get out as soon as we could, but the security line at Seatac was slow. After standing still for 40 minutes we finally got through, just in time for our flight, and not a moments too soon. We were just able to get out before the snow struck the airport. We arrived to a mildly temperate California without a snowflake in sight.

My sister picked us up and of course we headed over to Disneyland. It was packed! Every thing was crowded. We ate dinner, watched a parade, went on Small World, and looked in the shops. We were all pretty drained from the plane ride (half of the plane was large families with young screaming kids) and waiting in line for rides wasn’t too much fun, so we left early. We drove down to The Elephant Bar down on Firestone for dessert.

The next morning we visited EV Free Fullerton over by my sister’s place and it was really good. Then we headed down to Palm Desert for the night and returned to La Mirada the next afternoon. I got to see a few people while we were back in town including Gio, Luke, and Austyn. Later that evening we headed out to Palm Desert again and we’ve been here ever since.

It’s been good being with my parents here in Palm Desert. We’ve played golf, done some cheese tasting, and just relaxed. I’m getting ready to go back to Biola on Monday. I’ll be spending my time reading, helping out in orientation, and hanging out with friends. I can’t wait to start my second half of college!

I golfed with my parents today. It was fun, but really slow, taking almost 5 hours. Fortunately it wasn't too hot and we were in good company
